“Couples therapists need a heart big enough to hold two truths, and a spine strong enough to name them both.” -Dr. K
I am passionate about helping people relate in secure and mature ways. I am committed to supporting people in breaking free from learned dysfunctional relating patterns and attachment wounding and guiding them in learning how to create real, meaningful, nourishing connection. Most people in relationships don’t want to be in a cycle of wounding and disconnection with each other, yet they find themselves trapped and unable to get out of these damaging cycles. As therapists and coaches, our job is to help couples learn, grow, and evolve whether that means the couple stays together or finds clarity that it’s time to part ways. Couples need therapists and coaches who understand complex relational dynamics and can truly support them.
Working with couples requires a much different lens and skill set than working with individuals. With couples, we are required to hold the complexity of a multi person psychology; to support folks in the challenges of navigating two realities, not just one. It is a necessity for us to be able to think circularly instead of linearly; to see the way one person impacts the other, how the other person reacts and then impact the other and so goes the cycle. We are challenged in this work to truly empathize with both people in the couple even when they may believe the other to be at fault, treating each other like the enemy or even believe their partner is intentionally out to get them. Additionally, things often happen fast in working with couples and nervous systems can be very heightened and dysregulated frequently. If you are new or experienced in this way of working, therapists can find themselves swept away in triggers both of clients as well as activations of their own relational wounding, gender biases, and defense mechanisms.
If I can help therapist feel more confident, grounded, and empathetic in working with couples, it means I can help even more folks struggling in relationship. I’m helping you and your clients, which is very exciting to me! My work with couples is trauma informed and rooted in interpersonal neurobiology and I bring this into our consultation work. I have trained primarily in the attachment based modalities EFT and PACT couples therapy and have specialized in couples therapy for many years (read more about me here). I also genuinely love mentoring and supporting those who hold space for others. Together we can you weave your unique ways of working into your couples work and help you feel more confident and inspired in helping couples.
My rate for couples consultation is $160/hr and I can work with therapists and coaches from anywhere. I look forward to getting to know you and helping empower you in this work!
“I wholeheartedly recommend Katelyn to therapists seeking consultation for couples work. She has been instrumental in shaping the way I approach working with couples. Her expertise, insight, and warmth have helped me better understand not only what is happening beneath the surface for each partner, but also how to intervene in ways that foster connection and growth. Her deep understanding of attachment, attunement, and relational dynamics allows her to offer guidance that is both clinically sophisticated and deeply human. She has a remarkable ability to tailor interventions to each therapist’s unique style, helping clinicians develop an approach that feels authentic, effective, and sustainable.” -Audra G, MA, LPCC
